Belleview needs fish, shade
The pond is wonderful but lacks fish, and some "free" ones turned out to be a tad too expensive for the city to reel in. The playground is new but lacks shade, and the city cannot cover the cost of a cover. Fortuitously, the City Commission was to discuss applying for a parks-and-recreation grant the same night it would hear the concerns about the playground from Hades. Moms can't bear the striking sun, and kids forego the 2-year-old playground for more ramshackle slides and swings because they, at least, sit beneath shade trees. In this small town, there is a fishing pond where few fishermen fish and a playground where few children play. Such is the topsy-turvy reality for a small town in the midst of a "won't-believe-it-until-we-see-it" economic recovery. Citizens across the country decry the federal government and Wall Street's "too-big-to-fail" largesse. government sometimes is too small to succeed - even when the toughest parts of projects are in place.
