Arlo Gutherie arrives with family, friends and tunes

"The American Theatre has become a regular stop for me along the trail of gigs I do year after year," said the musician of the historic Hampton venue. "I just love playing where people are so nice and friendly and where the audience is close enough to see what you're doing as well as hear what you're playing. Fans in Hampton Roads can get up close and personal with the performer when he plays The American Theatre on Feb. Each year Guthrie does something different, and this time he's bringing along son Abe on keyboards and his guitarist grandson, Krishna. "I think there's something special when families play together," Guthrie said. Arlo Guthrie has spent the better part of the past 40 years on tour, but some spots along his journey are more memorable than others. "Evidently there are a few people who find the shows worth going to. ". That kind of self-deprecating charm has been winning over fans ever since Guthrie made his concert debut at the age of 13.
