Order tickets for Secret Gardens tour
As visitors walk across the lawn below the house, which serves as an artist’s retreat, they face the lovely gates that introduce the rose garden. The featured properties are a mix of big suburban gardens and smaller spaces in town where the owners have done the most with their yards. Soroptimist International of Saratoga County released yesterday the list of gardens that will be open to visitors during the 16th annual Secret Gardens Tour. Last year, the Riggi mansion on North Broadway was one of the stops on the tour. The sounds of water features in the shade garden add another dimension to the experience. Beyond the pergola is the shade garden, where many perennials thrive in the dappled light. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the tour July 11. It was a big draw and 2009 marked the first year the Soroptimists sold out all 800 tickets. I wanted a garden that held more than flowers and where the flowers that held it were what they really are … not what they are called.
