Horticulture enthusiasts will flock to Vero Beach's Gardenfest! this weekend
The gardener popularized the square-foot gardening method that teaches people to plant fruits, vegetables and flowers in simple, one square foot raised beds. The square-foot technique was first promoted in 1981 by Bartholomew and his book, "Square Foot Gardening," along with a PBS television series that later was featured on the Discovery and Learning Channels. "It's pretty, and you can enjoy everything and see a lot of plants you might not ever see or find anywhere else and you can learn a lot, too. Hosted by the Garden Club of Indian River County as a way to raise money to support the organization's civic projects, Gardenfest. gives visitors the chance to stroll through more than 80 exhibits displaying and selling a wide variety of plants, pottery, fountains, lighting and other garden accessories at a low cost. "I think the idea and his expertise will draw in a lot of new people," Russell said. "We're probably the biggest and the best of our kind in central Florida," said Barbara Russell, Gardenfest.
