Columbus Botanical Gardens hosts two hands-on workshops
“Let’s Get Ready for Spring: Learning How to Keep Garden Tools Solid, Sharp and Clean” will give gardeners from beginners to masters the opportunity to sharpen their skills and their tools just in time to prune trees and shrubs. Master Gardener Bill Kes will demonstrate how to properly clean and sharpen a variety of garden tools. The Columbus Botanical Gardens is offering two hands-on workshops in February to help gardeners get their landscape off to a healthy start. The most dangerous tools in the gardening shed are powered hedge trimmers and chainsaws. Many gardeners simply don’t consider the importance of keeping tools sharp and well-oiled, he said. “Dirt holds moisture, and then tools rust,” Kes added. Bring a pair of hand pruners or loping shears, and a shovel or hoe to sharpen during the class. “You can sharpen a hedge trimmer,” Kes says.
