KAP oppose proposed pesticide ban
"On my own farm, I am a seed grower and we grow a perennial grass which is easily affected by dandelions. According to the KAP, Health Canada's Pesticide Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) puts all pesticides through a comprehensive scientific review process to ensure their safety and meet the health and safety standards before they become registered... However, Chorney said that this may cause more of a problem because natural pesticides doesn't mean that it doesn't have to be tested by the PMRA. The plan would see the ban of cosmetic pesticides, which Chorney said could end up causing more of a problem than they are now. These kinds of regulations would increase pesticide use because you'd have farmers spraying in cases that you wouldn't have had to before," Chorney said. Not using science to back their claims is something that Chorney sees as a violation of KAP beliefs and one that could cost farmers in the long run. A pesticide ban proposed by Manitoba Conservation has drawn the ire of Keystone Agricultural Producers president Doug Chorney.
