Cleveland Botanical Garden to help set sustainability standards for landscape ...
The Sustainable Sites Initiative already has the support of the U. S. Green Building Council, the nonprofit trade organization that expects to incorporate the landscape guidelines and performance standards into future updates to the LEED rating... The initiative is a partnership of the American Society of Landscape Architects , the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas at Austin and the United States Botanic Garden. "We're thrilled to be a part of this -- to be able to share and learn of others' great ideas and for the privilege of showcasing this to the public in Northeast Ohio," said Natalie Ronayne, executive director of the Botanical Garden. That's where the Botanical Garden and the other sites come in -- helping to set the benchmarks for what it means to have a sustainable landscape, regardless of whether the site also has a building. The Sustainable Sites Initiative will use the feedback from the garden and others on its 250-point program to revise its final rating system and reference guide by early 2013.
