A word about crabgrass preventer and other lawn products
If you already have or plan on planting new grass seed or using a seed product to patch holes in your lawn, you need to make sure you do not spread the area with pre-emergent. And you also want to make sure you do not use any clippings from grass treated with pre-emergent as mulch, as the chemicals will linger in the grass and could keep veggies and flower seeds that come in contact with the mulch from germinating. The problem with pre-emergents is they do not just target crabgrass, but work their magic on any seeds in which they come in contact, meaning those seeds will not germinate. Pre-emergent, more commonly known as crabgrass preventer, works by preventing crabgrass and other weed seeds in your lawn soil from germinating. Crabgrass seeds are spread in the fall to grow into new weeds in spring once it gets warm.
