Show offers tips for home improvement
More than 130 exhibitors are scheduled to attend, offering information on home-improvement projects including remodeling, new construction, lawn care, decorating, landscaping, roofing, siding, gardening, painting, door installation and masonry work. "People are staying in their houses longer, so we're finding more remodeling projects than new construction,'' said Jason Hewitt, executive director of the Builders Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania. "We've already taken down walls, and we had to raise the walls upstairs four feet because, in the old farmhouse, you would have to almost bend over a little to walk upstairs. The 65-year-old Waterford resident spent Friday afternoon at Family First Sports Park soliciting prices and information from several contractors at the 51st Annual Home Show, sponsored by the Builders Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania. Marianne Yaple-Hessinger's renovation project on a two-story farmhouse in Waterford began more than a year ago. We're on the up, but it might be a couple years before we're back to where we were.
